How to Approach an Island is a new research project led by Arbonauts, looking at islands, ecology and site-specific work. We are exploring the stories and cultures of islands –
Symi island in Greece where Dimitri’s maternal family is from, and the island coastline of the Essex estuary. Our initial R&D phase involved explorations in Symi and Essex on how to approach an island – physically and metaphorically – and how these can reveal new narratives and provocations about contemporary and archaic contexts – the cultural identities, ecologies, economies and communities of archipelago histories.
We are delighted to have been supported in our R&D by Arts Council England, Metal, Estuary Festival, Project Seagrass and Goethe Insitut.
Thanks to Sabrina Morreale and Lorenzo Perri from Lemonot and the students from the RCA ADS7: Convivial-ism.
